General Information

Train station, Ochamchira, Abkhazia, 2010.

Ochamchira was one of the many stops on the long train ride from Moscow to Baku, Azerbaijan. The train crossed the mountains at Krasnodar, headed toward Sochi. From
there, it continued to Sukhum, then on to Ochamchira, Zugdidi, and across the mountains again toward Tbilisi. In the pretty, light-blue train station—which appears to have been built sometime in the 1950s—the ceiling has collapsed. A Russian freight train is bringing building materials: Russia wants to repair the track to serve its nearby army base.
