General Information

Jean Larramendy, Ahaxe, France, 2022.

Retired peasant Jean Larramendy lives in a beautiful large Basque farmhouse. Since the discovery of the French Basque Country by rich Parisians and foreigners, Basque farmers have been bought out of their picturesque homes for large sums of money. Young farmers often can no longer buy their parents’ house. His grandson Ioritz lives next door to his father with his wife and two children. He is the 7th generation to run this farm. He sees how young people struggle to stay in the area. The language and traditions are strong here. But house prices are now unaffordable.
