Spring Print (2022)

Every season, Rob Hornstra selects an image from his archive and makes it available as an exclusive handmade C-print (36 x 42 cm / 14.2 x 16.5 in). The number of buyers determines the print run, up to a maximum of 25. Once the season is over or print sold out, the image is no longer reprinted. This offer runs until 30 June 2022. Prints will be shipped in July 2022.

“In the summer of 2011, writer Arnold van Bruggen and I travelled by train from beach resort to beach resort along the endless coastal strip around the Russian resort of Sochi. In the evenings we visited restaurants to portray the karaoke singer on duty for our forthcoming book Sochi Singers. During the day, I occasionally photographed with an old KIEV camera, a present from a friend in Sochi. When it showed obvious flaws - broken filmtransport - I fell back on my own medium format camera to photograph people on the beach. I always feel terribly awkward between all those half-naked sweating and frequently drunk people. This young lady strolled nonchalantly towards me on the pebble beach of Loo. My question whether I could photograph her was redundant. One click. And off she went.”
